Massively Multiplayer Online Game
Hattrick is a strategic football game - outwit your opponents on the field today, or build a winning long-term strategy. Hattrick is a persistent multiplayer game world and has been online since 1997! It's easy to get started in Hattrick, no downloads are required and you won't need to be constantly online to succeed. The community is a huge part of Hattrick.
Check out lively forums and make friends from around the world. This game is really showing it's age. It has changed little since 2000, and has a declining userbase That being said - it is a nice long-term strategy game - The developers are active, and attempt to actively balance the game (to stop dominant strategies) - The community is decent. It used to be the best online community (bar-none), but it has become increasingly polarized over the past few years. I think that the final fate of Hattrick lies in the balance. Can the developers make this the lively, vibrant game it used to be, or will it continue its decline? - tl;dr: Good game, but getting long in the tooth.
Future: unknown. I know it's the oldest out there, but it has really been surpassed by other games. Tactics and player development isn't nearly deep enough; it's impossible to gain in-game money; paradoxically, the only way to advance, as a newbie who starts in division 7, is to buy out a star-laden squad. Most games have a lot better graphics and personalization features also for free.
The only thing I think HT still has over everyone else is the ongoing match commentary: no game that I know has a similarly good game commentary; but it doesn't save the game from its other problems. It's a good game. Maybe it's not appealing to the stupid new generations, who only cares about graphics and one million games per week, and all this kind of idiotic things.
But to play you have to be good at long term planning. You learn about economics and you have a good time interacting with a vivid community, where most people are above 20 y.o., rather than crying and cheating teenagers. It's also great to build a team, to choose the right kinds of players. I've never seen a manager game that gets close to hattrick in terms, it's much better than anything in the market. And I've been playing it for almost 5 years!
I had a team for three years, focussing on buying real name players and making a fantasy side. I neve really progressed through the levels, but had more fun creating a side with players like van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney. I even had a growing fan base as was an active member of the community.
I was even a paying customer for three years running. Then in 2012 the mods decided to ban me with no chance of appeal. Their reasoning: I had 'overpaid for players, which was not allowed at all'. The fact I was bidding against other fantasy team managers made this even more baffling. I argued and argued that they were killing the game with their heavy handed modding, and sucking the fun out if they weren't going to let me spend my own cash, of which I had saved £10M, which is a lot in Hattrick. Three years of hard work, wiped out and over £100 spent, gone, with no right of appeal.
And for what I ask!? In all honesty the mods ruin the game, they don't listen and their main argument was that the extra £100-200k I was paying for players was giving the other teams I bought from an unfair advantage. I would never play this game again due to the fact it's in decline, become impossible to succeed as a new manager. And is about as fun as having a rusty spoon through your eye. The mods for me, are the worst, money stealing, morons, I've ever had the displeasure of talking to.
Just be aware you could waste years of your life, only to be banned, and your money taken for nothing. Hattrick is an unbelievable load of bullsh. run by greedy Swedes.
The match engine sucks big time, the game developers have no ideas and only fix stupid details. The game is running dry (lost 70% of their users).
The community is not satisfied with the way things are going. The game is controlled by secret scripts instead of the manager. Tactics rarely matter. Find yourself another game or read a book.
If you like a game engine that f. you in the a.
every other game, then this is the game for you!
