Today's project is installing a repleca Type-R lip on a 1999 GSR. This is a tricky install as it requires stretching the lip to fit, but when its on, its a factory fit (also, the Acura OEM lip installs this exact way as well). Please Note Again: This install involves stretching/bending the lip to fit OK, so now that I've made clear that there is some risk involved in the install and that I or this site assume NO responsibilty if you damage anything, let's continue (all right all right, enough with the disclaimers) Back in December of 2005, I had my teg in the body shop for some accident repair. At the same time I decided to buy a new front bumper (already installed by the time I got to the lip install) and a replica lip from one of our current sponsors,. At the same time of repair, I had the body shop paint the items for me, here's the lip ready for install All right, this is a LOT easier with two people, so grab a friend. First thing you'll notice is that if you just put the lip into place level with the ground that the lip appears to be 'short' on each side by about 1/2' , as they say, 'DON'T PANIC!'
Here's what you do: Start off by hooking the middle of the lip onto the bumper and tilt the sides toward the ground like so: Once its in place, here's where the 'streching' comes into play, I'll try to show this here in this image: So let's do what the image shows, hold the center in place with your left hand and pull the edge around the side of the bumper, you'll end up with this: Now that its in place, we need to secure it. Now while there are many places to tag a screw to hold it in place, I wanted to use the stock screws to do the job, so I removed the screw located at the left side of bar 'B' in this image and measured the width of distance 'A'. I then made a mark the same distance from the OEM bumper screw hole onto the lip (which would be the right side of bar 'B').
So the end result I am after is to align the yellow dot with the existing screw hole on the bumper Now that I have that lined up, I use the screw to drill through the lip and into the bumper's screw hole, demostrated here End result from the front. Eagle arms ea-15 serial numbers.
